The recent success of the West Indies Women's Cricket Team comes as result of hard work and the team becoming more professional. Sherwin Campbell did an excellent job with them before and must be complimented. Vasbert and I have since taken them to another level. This has come through motivating them to work harder on their fitness and their over all game. We have also empowered them by encouraging them to take ownership of their game and becoming a lot more disciplined in all aspects of their lives.
This is a process and the journey has just started. What we have said to them is "work out your own Salvation". Some people say that I am a hard taskmaster but I am fair. What we never do is fail to tell the ladies the truth. Too many people in sport today tell players what they want to hear and that does more harm to the players than good. So we strive to be honest and open in what we do.
This has created a relaxed atmosphere around the team and players have embraced the concept. This could not have been achieved without the backing of the relevant authorities. The management team has worked closely to help bring about our recent success. What we would love now is for the public to give us their full support and the West Indies Cricket Board to give us more support in our quest to be the top team in the world.
